Very recently, I helped a friend in writing an article for the national newspaper that was published in Manila Bulletin, the Philippine's leading broadsheet. It was put in the Well-Being section this Sunday morning and was sponsored by Nestle Bear Brand.
It was an article the shares the public the information about the importance of drinking milk. This is in accordance with the milk brand's campaign dubbed as "Laki Sa Gatas" or "Growing Up with Milk". But I will not be making this article to promote them, but rather to promote the importance of milk itself.
There has always been the misconception that drinking milk is only for kids. Parents usually urge their kids to Drinking Milke for them to grow taller and wiser. Although that is absolutely right, we also should note that drinking milk is good for everyone, in fact, it is recommended for those people in their advance age.
The truth of the matter is, we need more milk as we get older. Milks are high in calcium that our bone needs to strengthen and for young bones to grow. But remember that bones are living tissues therefore its need for calcium changes as we age. In most countries nowadays, processed milk are now required to be fortified with Vitamin A, C and Zinc. There are vitamins that we all need as we grow older.
Calcium provides the fuel for our bones. Without proper amount of calcium in our body, our bones would make small cracks as we move, especially in the back area which supports the whole body. It eventually would result in more serious threats like osteoporosis and scoliosis.
Vitamin A and C are as important as calcium. It acts as the primary defense against complicated and serious diseases like cancer. It also prevents simple Drinking Milke and fever. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system. Vitamin A in particular helps you gain better vision.
Zinc helps in metabolic function. It catalyzes chemical reactions so you can digest all the foods you take and gain the nutrients from it. It also helps in growth. Low zinc levels in the body caused growth retardation. It also boost body resistance.
So if you are still hesitant to drink your favorite childhood Drinking Milke brand, well you can indulge in it now. Unless you're lactose intolerant.
